Welcome to ìfęni blog where you going to meet the amazing work of chefs all over South America and Caribean

Hello readers Chef Abdul Malik here, with great joy we started this blog with the mission of spreading the wonders of African and Afro-diasporic cuisine in Latin America, today we bring you some words of Chef Gebriela and her wonderful work in Santiago of Chile, spreading and bringing the Tigray culinary traditions to Latin America.

Chef Gebriela making Himbasha

Selam, my name is Gebriela I am the owner of Gezana, I am from Tigray, Ethiopia. I came to Chile six years ago just for a visit but I love Chile so I decided to stay here in Santiago.

My project of opening or introducing cuisine and culture from Tigray has always been on my mind since I got here. However, It was not easy to open so I came up with the idea of cooking and delivering from home.

Gezana started introducing the culture, tradition, and cuisine through our Instagram page and other platforms in 2020 it was great a lot of people were interested in trying the food and knowing more about the tradition and about what was going on in Tigray, Gezana was not only about the cuisine and the culture but also about letting the world know about the Genocide that's happening back home(Tigray), Gezana helped me to tell the suffering, injustice, famine, and all the atrocities that were happening to my people. The least that I could do was promote Tigray so people know more about what was happening.

I have big projects for the future introducing a lot more through the cuisine, culture, and tradition more importantly including my people to help build what was destroyed for the past 4 years schools, hospitals, museums, etc with the support and love from my family, my husband, and my Chigrian son(Chilean and Tigrayan) hahaha I love doing what I do showing and introducing what Africa can offer through many ways and shortly I would love to put the image that is in my heart of Gezana on the ground the colors, the paintings, the smell, the textile, the face, all the things that I love and carry in my dear heart about Tigray and the people.

I would like to thank Abdul Malik for giving me this amazing opportunity to talk about my project and work. Thank you and keep going with your wonderful projects!

Selam!
